Rhododendron flower
One of the most spectacular seasonal natural phenomena in the himalaya is seldom witnessed by trekkers. The blooming of the vast an varied rhododendron forest of eastern Nepal occurs in the late Spring when few treks are made. Having traveled the high ridges between Makalu and Kanchenjunga in Mid-May, we can attest to the majesty of this botanical event. Trekkers may have to dodge an occasional hail shower and afternoons may be cloudy, there will be certainly be many days of good viewing of the three highest Himalayas of Nepal: Everest , Makalu and Kanchenjunga as a back drop for more than thirty species of Rhododendron at the peak of their blooming season.
