DHULIKHEL

The village of Dhulikhel, 45 minutes from Kathmandu by road, is a favorite spot for Kathmandu Durbar Square relaxing away from the bustle of the capital city. Almost 1000 feet above  Kathmandu valley, Dhulikhel is famous for its views of the Himalaya. The Himalayan Horizon is an elegant hilltop lodge with lovely gardens, patio dinning and excellent rooms, just ten minutes by foot from the narrow alleys and winding streets of the town. A thirty Nagarkot minute climb, up steep stone stairs, will bring you to a small Bhagwati Temple, a great spot for sunset views of the mountains. The Namo Buddha monastery is about a 3 1/2 hour walk from the lodge. We usually recommend a stay of at least two days, although some choose Dhulikhel as a base for short treks in the surrounding foothills

 CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK

Chitwan National Park is probably the World's best habitat for the rare Bengal Tiger and the one-horned Rhinoceros. Almost 15,00sq.km. of lush riverine grassland and subtropical forest provide sanctuary for hundreds of species of birds and other animals. The elevation here is only 150m above sea level, though on clear days you can see 8,000m Himalayan peaks. Once a Royal Hunting preserve, Chitwan has steadily expanded with ever-improving protection against encroachment and poaching. Now there is no hunting and populations of rhinos and tigers have reached such levels that transplanting to other sites now takes place. Recent estimates place the rhinos population at 325, about a third of the World total. The tiger population is harder to estimate but is probably between 60 and 100 animals. Our Chitwan National Park extension includes round trip transportation from Kathmandu (usually by road), two night at an isolated jungle lodge in the park, two elephant safari, guided nature walk, dock-out cannue, double accommodation, all meals and park fees.
